Joey the anteater in Brazil

Joey the giant anteater rediscovers life in the wild

News

You helped Joey the giant anteater heal from his injuries, after he was left orphaned by devastating forest fires in Brazil. Now he’s all grown up and has just been released back into the leafy forest of his Amazon home!

Joey’s back living the wild life! Helped along with some tempting yummy snacks, this young giant anteater ventured back out into the Amazon wilderness for the first time in 2 years.

Joey has come such a long way from the day he was first rescued by our partners at the Tamanduá Institute. He was left orphaned and injured following deliberately lit forest fires in Brazil. But fuelled with some nutritious warm milk and lots of fresh fruit, he was soon ready to take on the wild once more.

Joey’s dedicated carers wanted to share with you some beautiful photos they’ve snapped over the years, showing how well he’s grown after his long journey. Check out how big he’s become!
