From rumbles and chirps to whines and whistles, animals can produce dozens of different sounds for different purposes. Here are some wild animal sounds that might surprise you!
You might recognise an image of a koala, cheetah or rhino but do you know what they sound like? Here are some of the most surprising, cute and unexpected animal noises you’ve ever heard.
Rhinos
Rhinos make several sounds to communicate and are known to growl and make their iconic ‘trumpet calls’ during confrontations. Some snort, make sneeze-like calls, and can even scream when faced with danger. Here’s a clip of one of the many interesting sounds a rhino makes.
Koalas
Male koalas are known for their loud vocalisations to attract a mate and announce their territories. It starts with repeated snort sounds as they inhale followed by grunty belch sounds as they exhale. Both male and female species are known to make deep bellowing and grunting calls. Elephants
Whether it’s a roar or a rumble, elephants are known to use numerous vocalisations to communicate with one another. Apart from this, they also snort, grunt, trumpet, bark, cry and are also able to mimic sounds. Here’s a snippet of what an elephant sounds like.
Cheetahs
Contrary to popular belief, cheetahs don’t roar. Instead, they make purrs, chirps and trills to show contentment and growl, yell or hiss when faced with a threat. Take a listen to this animal sound.
