Baby giant anteaters take their first step to freedom
News
In 2024, you helped three giant anteater pups from the flames of deliberately lit fires in Brazil. Recently, they took a massive step in their recovery journey and even have cute names!

Thanks to your support, our partners in Brazil were able to rush to rescue three anteater pups as manmade fires ravaged their homes.
They’ve made great progress in their recovery journey since then and have been given beautiful names that honour the local flora – Aroeira, Manduvi and Tarumã.
The three baby giant anteaters are doing very well, growing and developing their behaviour positively.
Now, they’re all set to enter their “immersion enclosures” which means:
- less interaction with humans,
- more space to explore and forage,
- greater interaction with local wildlife,
- and a greater opportunity to demonstrate their natural behaviours.
The transition of juveniles to this area is always a moment of celebration and marks the most important phase of reintroduction to the wild.
Thanks to your support and the tireless efforts of our partners at the Tamandua Institute, the anteaters will soon be on their way back to the wild, where they belong.

Thank you for your unwavering support for Aroeira, Manduvi and Tarumã. Together, we can give more anteaters a life worth living.
